Job Description

This position is responsible for managing HGA's Baton Rouge mechanical engineering department and reports to the Baton Rouge Engineering Manager. The Department Manager provides work assignments and technical direction for the mechanical engineers in the department and coordinates closely with HGA's Piping design group.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesWork with Mechanical Design Team and Project Managers in maintaining budget, schedule and adherence to the agreed to scope of work for projects involving department resources.Perform performance evaluations of, review and approve timesheets for, and guide the development of direct reports.Meets with Clients to represent HGA, determine mechanical requirements, and facilitate Client requests and needs.Assess the requirements of projects, break a project into tasks, and work with other engineers to define the scope of work, budget, and staffing.Provide estimates of engineering manpower effort required for the jobs led and provide accurate manpower planning and tracking data during the duration of the project.Coordinate with Department Managers of other disciplines to communicate needs and provide information.Provide detailed mechanical design of equipment and give guidance to a team of Mechanical engineers and designers/draftsmen.Function as lead engineer on projects and coordinate the design aspects of the projects. This includes the generation of calculations and design drawings as well as field work.Develop and maintain project control documents such as PFDs and P&IDs.Perform vendor data review of equipment and components.Qualifications:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Bachelors' Degree from an accredited university/college in Mechanical Engineering Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical design as a Mechanical Engineer Minimum 5 years of experience in the Refining or Petro-Chemical industry is required Experience in API 610, 617 and 618 is required.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS Professional Engineering registration by examination preferred.Skills & AbilitiesProven ability to interface with Clients and demonstrates excellent communication skillsThorough knowledge of good engineering practices, PIP's, ASME Sec. II, VIII, IV, API, and equipment specificationsAbility to commute to the Baton Rouge office on a daily basis.Ability to clearly communicate with peers, supervisors, and subordinates.Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled
