Offering two distinct educational programs, with both day and boarding options, Shrub Oak truly is a school like no other.Position SummaryReporting to the Director of Education, the Special Education Math Teacher is a 12-month, professional positionprovides instructional leadership in academic content, with a focus around mathematics based on ITEP goals andor diploma requirements. In addition, the Math Teacher will have a strong partnership with the clinical staff to provide an individualized, evidence-based educational program considering each student's interests, strengths and needs. TheTeacher will also oversee Educational Assistants and 1:1sas appropriateproviding training and mentoring on instructional practices. Daily instruction by theTeacher will occur within the school building, on the school grounds and in the community. The Math Teacher will communicate closely with all levels of staff from all areas ofClinical and Campus Life to develop a unique enhanced educational experience. Each student's educational program will be designed to enrich their academic, activities of daily life and vocational development using hands-on, student driven activities that are goal-oriented and self-directed. The Math Teacher also actively assists with other programs, events, and services, and has the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of educational responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Required QualificationsMaster's Degree in Special Education or related degree with a concentrationcertification in Mathematicsandor a bachelor's degree in mathematicsCurrent NY StateSpecial Education teaching license (or equivalent)or eligibleto obtain oneDemonstrates knowledge of federal law (IDEA), state law, and national standards related to special educationDemonstrates knowledge and experience with technology applications as they relate to instructional resources and strategiesDemonstrates excellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrates interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to use Shrub Oak's technology systemAbility to adapt, remain flexible and make appropriate decisions under pressure and evolving circumstancesExperience with middle and high school students with Autism and related disordersRegular and consistent attendance is requiredPreferred QualificationsCredentials in HS, middle or adolescent special educationExpertise in a specific academic content areaKnowledge of best practices in special educationKnowledge of educational and vocational assessment toolsKnowledge of data collection and analysis for decision-makingKnowledge of a second languageMaster's or Ph.D. in specific content areaPosition TypeExpected Hours of Work:Full time staff work a traditional 40-hour work week, with expected participation in extra-curricular school activities.
