Summary of Responsibilities: The Portfolio Monitoring ("PM") team at BBVA is an integral part of Investment Banking & Finance within the Corporate & Investment Banking ("CIB") group of the Bank. PM is responsible for working with front office teams to execute and monitor loan documentation and monitor the performance of the loan portfolio in the NY Branch. PM provides agency services when BBVA acts as the administrative agent on syndicated loans and manages all waivers and amendments on loan transactions.PM US will work closely with the global PM team and coordinate activities on the NY Branch book, but eventually will build a team that can manage all of the activity of the US teams. The loan book in the US consists of corporate syndicated RCFs, term loans, bilateral loans, and club loans to both US companies and international clients who borrow from BBVA NY Branch. In addition, the US portfolio includes both lead roles and participations in project finance transactions, real estate loans, and capital call facilities.PM is involved in the early stages of loan execution, including the structuring stage of a facility. Once a loan transaction is closed, signed, and uploaded into the Bank's loan operations system, PM manages any and all events relative to the transaction, including covenant monitoring, amendments, waivers, etc. The PM team also monitors the loan book for relevant information on a borrower that could impact repayment and communicates with the front office and risk teams regarding loan performance metrics and activity.For loans in which BBVA acts as a lead bank ("Administrative Agent"), PM is integral in working with the borrower to distribute required covenant compliance documents and communicate with the club or banking syndicate. As a participant bank, PM acts as the key contact point for the administrative agent and manages the loan activity post closing.For complex transactions like Project Finance construction loans, PM is responsible for credit monitoring reviews of the loan and the recommendation of involvement of the restructuring teams, as needed, being a first line of defense for credit quality.The PM team will utilize a variety of applications and tools to perform its duties, including several internally developed applications.The general responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to the following: Managing the Portfolio Monitoring team in the US, including new hiringsWork closely with risk and front office product teams to successfully structure and close loan transactionsOnce a loan is closed, PM will manage the loan portfolio, including covenant compliance reporting, amendments and waiverPM will monitor borrowers for key events that could have an impact on the credit quality of the portfolioPM will proactively manage loans which are at risk of default, engaging with restructuring teams as neededAs head of the team, this role will be responsible for leading the Agency Services function when BBVA is lead bank or acts as sole lenderInteracts with Collateral Agents, Account Agents, Internal External Legal Counsel, Trustees, etc. in the management of lead rolesInteracts with internal loan operations, funding desks, etc. in the closing and management of the loan bookResponsible for managing the loan book in the NY Branch, which includes corporate syndicated loans, project finance, real estate finance, and capital callsWork with Loan Syndicate & Sales teams in the purchase and sale of assets as neededRegular reporting of loan metrics and quality indicatorsList MajorEssential Job Duties: Building and leading a US based Portfolio Monitoring team to support the existing and expected growth in the NY Branch loan portfolioInteract with a variety of internal and external parties to insure the successful execution and maintenance of the US loan bookProvide Agency Services function for loan transactions where BBVA acts as lead bankFirst line of defense on credit quality of the loan portfolio including covenant monitoring and early warning indicators of the client baseStrong understanding of loan documentation, loan structures, and covenant language, especially related to Project Finance transactionsLevel of Complexity and Risk Involved: Moderate level of complexity - especially related to monitoring of Project Finance and Real Estate LoansSkills, knowledge, and abilitiescompetencies:Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field10+ years of experience including roles in loan operations, loan monitoring, andor agency servicesKnowledge of syndicated finance, project and infrastructure finance, and real estateStrong understanding of the loan closing process and administrative agent rolesDemonstrated experience and proficiency in understanding loan documentation, covenants, and loan structures, especially related to Project FinanceExcellent English written and verbal communication skills and fluency in SpanishAbility to work in a team environment and under tight deadlinesProficient in Excel and Power PointStrong analytical skills.Management Responsibilities: This role will be responsible for building and leading the US Portfolio Monitoring team to support the growth of the client base in the USAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $200,000 to $260,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
