If you are a highly motivated and experienced individual who wants to make a real-world impact, we encourage you to apply!  Position Summary  AirJoule is seeking a Senior Product Development Mechanical Engineer to help our team design and build our transformative atmospheric water generating products. The successful candidate will be a core member of our team and be a hands-on contributor to designing and building systems, helping us in our transition from a prototype unit to mass manufactured products. The role will be of critical importance in our organization and will be on the front lines to getting products out the door and into our customers hands. This role requires expertise and hands-on experience in mechanical engineering design and building. With regards to mechanical design, expertise with CAD programs CATIA, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, and Ansy is required. Familiarity with vacuum compressors, condensers, electric drive motors, machined and molded parts, and electronically controlled sensors and actuators is desired, as these parts are core to our product. This role interfaces two existing working groups in the company, one at Montana Technologies and the other at GE Vernova. The successful candidate will work closely with these working groups, both complementing their engineering capabilities as well as leading some unit builds at the Newark location. This role will have an element of manufacturing operations wherein you will have a hands-on and direct contributions to our operations. Your responsibilities will range from building, testing, and troubleshooting prototype units, testing and validating new components and system designs, as well as communicating your learnings with the broader team and working groups. In this role you can make a significant impact to society and support the launch of our revolutionary products into the world!   Key Responsibilities To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.  Build and Troubleshoot Prototype Units: Working closely with our existing engineering teams, you will replicate our existing knowledge and create new system builds at the Newark location, bringing your existing mechanical engineering expertise to support builds. Acquire a fundamental knowledge of the working process of our units, bringing the newly built units online, through shakedown, and operationalize. Participate and Lead Component Working Groups: Joining our group of mechanical engineers, you will take a key role in all engineering working groups across the company, helping in various ways to take our engineering concepts from paper to product. Communicate clearly and deliver against weekly actions assigned to you or from you to help advance our productization roadmap. Establish effective communication channels within the team and across departments to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. Use mechanical design software to clearly communicate your concepts and designs to the broader team. Project Management: Contribute to the execution of engineering projects from conception to commercialization, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Monitor project progress and identify potential risks or issues, implementing mitigation strategies as needed. Technical Expertise: Owning, creating, and modifying mechanical designs and CAD models derived from CAITA, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys.  Bring hands-on experience building prototypes and deployed systems with both mechanical and electrical aspects to the build. Familiarity with concepts of vacuum systems, vapor compression, motor drives, electronically controlled actuators.  Education and Experience Requirements  Minimum Education:  PhD or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics or related field with a minimum of 5 years of industrial experience, or, a related BS degree or trade degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience. Minimum Experience: 5+ years of experience designing and building novel mechanical systems.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  Experience in a team-oriented mechanical engineering position responsible for designing and building new prototypes and products. Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design for prototype systems, moving from concepts to CAD models to system builds in a rapid and agile way.  Demonstrated expertise working through design, analysis, and testing of mechanical systems including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, validation, and product implementation.  Experience with the design, analysis (including finite element analysis) and testing of mechanical components (e.g., vacuum shells, vacuum pumps, compressors, shafts, bearings, dampers, couplings, seals, gears, etc.). Experience working in close collaboration with technologists, operations, quality, and business teams to ensure the mutual success of the business.  Experience understanding and navigating the risks of new mechanical system products, including providing input to help de-risk various failure modes of a system deployed in the field.  Experience in conceiving, developing, and carrying out experiments in mechanical hardware and transferring component level tests into full scale hardware solutions Experience modeling, simulation, andor experimentation to characterize and validate novel energythermal managementmechanical components and systems. Deep experience solving complex energy componentsmechanical systems andor thermal management problems for energy systems. Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer applied to thermal management problems. In-depth knowledge of system modeling (CAD - CATIA, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys) andor systems-of-systems modeling. Deep expertise developing engineering models in languages such as EES, Matlab, etc., system models in Matlab Simulink, and computational fluid mechanics tools such as Fluent, CFX, etc. Experience working with suppliers and machinists to procure the properly designed and fabricated parts.    Demonstrated champion of safety on the plant floor, defining safe operating procedures, performing safety audits, and being a prime example defining the safety culture.  Experience building systems starting from detailed drawings and engineering designs. Strong interpersonal skills, team player, and willing to work hard to get the job done. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate clearly to all functions of the business.  Physical Requirements Must be able to assemble mechanical devices requiring a high degree of manual dexterity. Must be able to lift and transport mechanical components weighing 20-30 lbs across a workspace and installing onto a build platform.  AirJoule's Benefits In addition to good working conditions and competitive pay, it is AirJoule's policy to provide a comprehensive benefits package that provides access to plans which support the overall wellbeing of our employees and their dependents.
