Centrifugal Chiller Technician6 Month Contract to HireOn-Site: Orlando, FL Qualifications, skills, and all relevant experience needed for this role can be found in the full description below.The Opportunity: The Chilled Water division currently has four (4) utility plants, which produce and deliver over 37,000,000 ton-hours of cooling annually to campus facilities. The use of centrally located plants benefits UCF by reducing building energy consumption and eliminating less efficient stand-alone cooling at each of the campus buildings. The department is seeking to hire a Centrifugal Chiller Technician II with a minimum of two (2) years' experience performing maintenance and repairs to plant buildings, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, actuators, underground distribution pipes, valves, and vaults. The incumbent will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the University's Central Energy Plants. At this level, the Chiller Technician must have the advanced technical knowledge.Responsibilities:Perform all preventive maintenance and daily operations of all four Main Campus Central Energy Plants to ensure the chilled water district heat load is met at all times. Support all major repairs and maintenance inspections. Monitor and respond to any system failures and alarms for district energy plants. Perform independent advanced analysis on chilled water systems and associated sub-systems in DEP plants. Install repair, replace, re-calibrate, and troubleshoot system controllers, terminal devices, electronic devices, actuators, and ancillary components to maintain continuously commissioned chilled water systems. Collaborate with leadership in the development and implementation of CHW system changes that provide improved and documented operational performance. Assist with the development of proposals and provides enhancement recommendations for actions on CHW modernization projects. Perform analysis of advanced system tests and historic trend data performance models to develop solutions and Facilities Performance Indicators (FPI's). Utilize technical data and experience to assist decision-making in CHW areas and other University departments relative to projects. Identify technical system issues and implement solutions accordingly.Collaborate with Automation contractors on interface changes to existing systems and their effects on them. Assist with developing, designing, and analyzing technical solutions through an appropriate blending of knowledge and business solutions. Repair CHW work orders and service requests pertaining to complex inquiries and quality-related matters. Perform proactive work orders to maintain the proper functionality of campus DEP plants.Repair CHW discrepancies and perform life safety and urgent work orders in an expedient manner, while adhering to and helping develop UCF's CWP Specifications.Provide guidance and support to Chiller Technician I's.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.Possess or obtain OSHA 30-Hour card within 3 months of hire.Possess or obtain forklift operator test within 3 months of hire.Preferred Qualification:Proficient knowledge of CHW service and troubleshooting and performing these actions autonomously.Display a proficient understanding of HVAC and CHW theory and control concepts. Demonstrated knowledge of calibrations, maintenance, and repair of existing equipment and of new specialized CHW equipment.Experience in troubleshooting to include, electrical and power transmission basics, operations, set up, and maintenance of CHW, Energy savings techniques, Chiller drive parameters, as well as speed, torque, and horsepower relationships related to variable frequency drives.Knowledge of measuring instruments such as electrical multi meters, AMP meters, calipers, dial indicators, laser alignment tools, vibration analysis tools, and IR sensors.
