This is a pivotal leadership role for a seasoned professional passionate about technology, innovation, and investing, with a proven track record in venture capital and a desire to drive impactful and strategic investment outcomes in the AgriFoodTech space (spanning broad primary production and food sectors). As an Investment Principal, you will take ownership of key investment processes, lead global deal sourcing efforts within AgriFoodTech, and play a central role in managing VCaaS mandates for government, corporate, and research institute clients. You will work closely with a dynamic, team-oriented group, collaborating with Associates, Analysts, and Partners, while mentoring junior team members. Over time, the ideal candidate will grow and expand their scope to lead investments across all verticals in Artesians portfolio, including AI, robotics, health, and fintech, contributing to the firms broader strategic goals.Key ResponsibilitiesLead AgriFoodTech deal sourcing and initial screening:Take primary ownership of identifying and evaluating global investment opportunities in the AgriFoodTech sector that align with our VCaaS and traditional fund mandates, using deep market insights and industry trends to meet financial and strategic goals.Oversee due diligence for AgriFoodTech investments:Lead comprehensive research and analysis on potential AgriFoodTech investments, including market sizing, financial modeling, and competitive assessments, ensuring alignment with mandate-specific goals such as sustainability, food security, or industry growth.Drive investment memo preparation:Spearhead the creation of detailed, high-quality materials for Investment Committee presentations, ensuring clarity and strategic insight to guide decision-making across AgriFoodTech and other mandate types.Manage portfolio monitoring:Take a leading role in tracking and analyzing portfolio company performance within AgriFoodTech, providing actionable insights to maximize financial returns and strategic outcomes, while mentoring junior team members in this process.Lead follow-on investment analysis:Own the evaluation of opportunities for additional funding rounds in AgriFoodTech portfolio companies, driving growth and value creation across our mandates.Actively participate in deal negotiation and closing:Play a key role in structuring and negotiating AgriFoodTech deals, working closely with Partners to finalize investments and documentation, particularly for VCaaS clients.Engage in ecosystem development:Build and maintain strong relationships within the global AgriFoodTech startup and innovation ecosystem, representing Artesian at industry events and fostering connections with founders to enhance deal flow.Contribute to value creation initiatives:Actively participate in developing strategies to support AgriFoodTech portfolio companies, such as operational improvements or market expansion, to drive growth and returns.Support fund operations and ecosystem building:Provide input and support on investor reporting, fund strategy, and community-building efforts, collaborating with Partners to strengthen Artesians broader ecosystem, with a focus on value-adding for VCaaS client relationships.Mentor junior team members:Guide and support Analysts and Associates, fostering their growth and ensuring high-quality contributions to the investment process across all verticals.Expand across all investment verticals:Over time, take on leadership of investment activities across Artesians broader portfolio, including AI, robotics, health, and education, contributing to the firms overall growth and impact.Ideal Candidate7+ years'' experience in an investment or operational/technical role, with expertise in agricultural and food industries and an understanding of real-world technology adoption factors and constraints within broad primary production industries.
