The organisation has an exclusive focus on supporting and advocating for all carers regardless of their age, location, life-stage or circumstances. This includes those caring for family members and/or friends who may be living with disability, mental illness, health related and/or chronic conditions, drug and alcohol related issues, and those who may be frail due to ageing.Carers NSW is a not-for-profit registered charity and company limited by guarantee. The organisation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth). The Board oversees the activities of Carers NSW and draws on the expertise and insights of Directors to achieve its strategic priorities.Carers NSW is seeking applications from individuals who have a commitment to excellence and a desire to contribute to effective governance. Successful applicants will bring alignment with the purpose of the organisation and have capacity to devote time and energy to the position of a Board Director.Board ActivitiesBoard activities include strategic planning, Board development and reviewing financial planning and performance. Meetings are held at least six times a year on the last Thursday of every second month and usually last from three to four hours. In addition, Board workshops may be scheduled from time to time as required. There is also the opportunity for Directors to serve on Board committees and working groups.Directors are appointed as individuals, not as nominees or representatives of organisations or a particular sector.
