This sense of camaraderie and cross-disciplinary expertise spurs drive and commitment to the growth of our business.The RoleReporting to the General Manager, Legal, Property, Planning & Environment.The primary responsibility of the Lawyer, Property, Planning & Environment is to provide specialist property law support for Squadrons wind, solar and battery projects.The role will be based in one of Squadron Energys east coast offices in Newcastle or Sydney with travel to the other Squadron Energy east coast offices.Key ResponsibilitiesLegal adviser for the activities of the Squadron Energy group: draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contractual documentationProviding specialist advice in property law and drafting property agreements for renewable energy projects, and advising on other commercial agreements and approvals to assist in development, delivery and operations of Squadron Energy projects.Site investigation, land access, leasing and acquisition, permitting and planning -Drafting, negotiation, and ongoing compliance with land documents for renewable energy projects including licences, easements, options, leases and registration of associated survey plansAssist development project teams with land tenure due diligence. Coordinate land project development documentation for the purpose of financial close of projects.Planning - advising on planning approvals and permits for new renewable energy projects.Legal Compliance: advise on compliance of our renewable energy projects with applicable laws, regulations, permits and licences related to land use, property, planning and environmental approvals.Risk Mitigation: Identify legal risks and propose strategies to mitigate them.Stakeholder communication: Collaborate with internal teams, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate project success.Regulatory changes: stay updated on legal developments in the renewable energy sector.Manage external: instruct and manage external legal counsel.ExperienceMinimum 3 years post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.Property experience including advising, preparing, and negotiating licences, options, leases, and easements and registration of associated plans.Planning: experience in advising on planning and permitting in energy or infrastructure projects.Environmental law: experience in advising on environmental approvals and compliance for energy or infrastructure projectsCommercial law: experience in drafting commercial contracts, and advising on general commercial mattersSkillsAnalytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess legal risk and propose effective pragmatic solutions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to internal clients and non-legal stakeholdersStrong ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal stakeholders within SQE (development, delivery, asset management, technical services and corporate teams) and with SQEs external stakeholders) and advisorsAbility to take ownership of property matters for development and operations projects and play a supporting role in large or more complex matters.Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise multiple tasks.Ability to work in a dynamic project development culture.Good sense of commercial drivers.QualificationsTertiary qualifications in Law.Holder of a current Australian practising certificate.To applyAt Squadron Energy, we believe that diversity and inclusion are key to fostering innovation and driving success.
