Clinicians throughout our Network are actively engaged in our BPT program.The Northern Sydney Coastal BPT Network has training positions in Royal North Shore Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital, Gosford and Lismore Base Hospitals. All are teaching hospitals affiliated with Sydney University and the University of Newcastle. Our metropolitan sites are busy with exposure to a wide variety of presentations and patient populations. Our rural sites offer tremendous opportunity to see a diverse range of clinical medicine where you will start to develop the key decision-making and clinical judgement skills of a physician.Our training program targets your clinical skills and your professional skills. We take education and training seriously and value the same from our trainees.What you''ll be doingThe primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants. Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures. BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plansDiscuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carersDocument the progress of patients in multiple settingsPrescribe medications tailored to patients needs and conditionsTransfer care of patientsChoose, organise and interpret investigationsAssess and manage acutely unwell patientsPlan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important proceduresMerit SelectionNSW Health follows a merit-based recruitment and selection process as per Policy Directive PD2023_04 Recruitment and Selection of Staff to the NSW Health Service.Candidates will be assessed against the Essential Requirements and Selection Criteria for this position.
