Queensland Fire DepartmentRockhamptonRural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) Districts focus on supporting operational and organisational functions in rural fire management, enabling field staff and volunteers to concentrate on response tasks. Each District includes operational and non-operational staff, RFSQ volunteers, and rural fire brigades providing fire management, mitigation, and response services for rural and semi-rural communities, including some urban fringe areas across the state.Purpose of the Work Area and PositionReporting to the Assistant Chief Officer (District), you will coordinate mitigation strategies and education programs for Brigades, aligned with statewide bushfire mitigation frameworks. You will manage the Fire Warden network, implement the Permit to Light System, and contribute to planning, implementing, and evaluating district-wide programs. The role involves collaboration with the Bushfire Mitigation unit and stakeholders to strengthen community bushfire mitigation networks.Mandatory RequirementsMust meet the requirements outlined in the generic RFSQ Inspector role description.Highly Desirable RequirementsAbility to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders from rural and remote communities.Primary DutiesThis role builds upon the generic RFSQ Inspector role description, providing specific duties, including:Leading bushfire mitigation planning and activities across the district, including risk assessments and evaluation.Managing and mentoring Bushfire Mitigation Officers and First Nations officers.Undertaking Chief Fire Warden duties in the absence of the Chief Fire Warden.Managing the Fire Warden network, including appointments, training, and support.Overseeing the Permit to Light Fire system and collaborating with the Bushfire Mitigation Unit.Supporting bushfire risk data management and liaising with partners on bushfire intelligence.Managing regulatory tools like fire bans and assisting with fire investigations and enforcement.Supporting the District Bushfire Committee and participating in forums and working groups.Additional InformationApplicants should hold the rank of substantive Inspector or Rural Officer Two (RFSO2) with relevant skills.Volunteers and external parties with appropriate skills are encouraged to apply.Proven commitment to bushfire competencies and teamwork is essential.Travel and flexible hours may be required, including night and weekend work.Participation in professional development and training within the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements is expected.Further InformationWe are committed to inclusive cultures that respect human rights and diversity.DocumentsPlease review the provided documents before applying.
