Expressions of Interest are called for a PO4 Senior Legal Officer in Finn Chambers, on a temporary flexible full-time basis, from the date of commencement for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension. About The Office Of The Director Of Public Prosecutions The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP''s significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in various courts including the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Children''s Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters). About Your Opportunity This is a temporary, flexible full-time position from the date of commencement for 12 months, with the possibility of extension, located in Townsville. As a Senior Legal Officer, the incumbent will undertake responsibilities including: Preparing complex matters referred to prosecution (including appeal submissions) in a professional and timely manner. Managing relationships with stakeholders, including defence counsel solicitors, police officers, victims, and witnesses. Appearing as an advocate to prosecute or defend appeals in the District Court, and representing the Director at bail applications, mentions, and call overs in the Magistrates and/or higher courts. Appearing as an advocate in committal hearings and summary hearings in the Magistrates Court (dependent on location). Liaising with complainants and relatives in prosecutions, especially in matters involving sexual and violent offences. Supervising, motivating, and leading legal officers and legal support staff in delivering legal services. Engaging in activities aimed at improving work practices. The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate The ability to apply legal principles, draft legal documents, and provide legal advice as a litigation solicitor, and work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts. Effective interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult, and negotiate with diverse stakeholders. Supervisory skills to train and mentor legal and support staff, with an emphasis on trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches to victims of crime. Maintaining high standards of professional competence and ethical conduct.
