Medical Registrar Position Title: Medical Registrar Classification: HM25-HM30 Depending on experience Department: Medical Doctors Applications Open: 17/04/2025 Employee Benefits: Employee Assist Program (EAP) Free Parking Petrol Discount at Local Petrol Station Health & Wellbeing Programs Discounted Gym Membership at Local Gym About the Role: Fixed Term 86 Hours Per Fortnight This position provides exposure and experience to enable the doctor to attain the required skills and knowledge as a Medical Registrar. The Medical Registrar assists in the management of medical admitted inpatients. This position entails rotating shifts at BCH acute medical ward under the supervision of the senior medical staff doctor on duty in the acute medical ward according to the medical roster, including afterhours covering PM shifts, weekends and night duty. The Med Reg will also attend clinics and support specialist ward based consulting as per the roster. The Med A Reg is responsible for all admissions to Hospital in the Home (HITH) and the medical ward, reviews of the Med A patient on the medical ward (5-10 patients) and responsible for responding to MET calls and Code Blues across the organisation. Med A is also responsible for the management of patients admitted under the medical ward consultant to the Infusion and Treatment Unit (ITCU) and HITH. The position will also provide clinical support to the haemodialysis unit under the supervision of Monash Nephrology. The Med B Reg looks after the remaining 15-22 acute medical ward beds, including the Close Observations Beds. The Registrar will play an active role in supervising HMO and medical students on the acute medical ward. They will also contribute to the unit morbidity and mortality meeting and other rostered educational activities. General Practitioners who work on the medical ward (GPM)/General Medical Physicians are primarily responsible for supervising the Medical Registrar who should actively seek their advice. The Registrar is rostered to work 43 hours per week, including weekend and after hour shifts, including night shifts. Handover is to take place at the change of each Registrar shift. From time to time the registrar may be required to fill a role within the subacute ward. The person in this position will work in a highly collaborative manner with the broader medical unit, as well as with other members of the Health Service. The position holder will actively participate in the planning, coordination, evaluation and implementation of a range of clinic interventions that supports reflective, evidence-based practice. Any issues with performance are to be reported to the Registrars clinical supervisor who will be responsible for the overall assessment for the trainee.
