Head of Financial AccountingLocation: Inner Melbourne CBD (North-East)Contract: 6 monthsRate: $93 per hour + superStart Date: ASAPRandstad is proud to be partnering with a State Government agency seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Financial Accounting to lead a high-performing team during a critical period of financial oversight and reporting.About the RoleWorking closely with the CFO, this role is pivotal in leading the financial accounting function with a focus on process improvement, compliance, and high-quality service delivery. You''ll be responsible for overseeing general ledger accuracy, asset register integrity, external reporting obligations (including taxation), and audit processes.This position plays a hands-on role in supporting internal leadership with critical financial insights, while also mentoring a team to align with the organisation''s strategic and operational goals.Key Responsibilities:Manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy across the general ledger and fixed asset registerProvide insightful variance analysis and commentary to support executive decision-makingMonitor monthly cash flow and ensure timely reconciliations of balance sheet accountsOversee delivery of internal and external financial reporting including DH reports, budget, forecast, statutory accounts, and compliance returns (e.g. MHE, ABS, WorkCover)Lead external audit coordination and support internal audit initiativesEnsure accurate BAS and FBT preparation, maintaining compliance with relevant tax legislationDrive a culture of performance and improvement within the Financial Accounting teamFoster a collaborative team environment while supporting individual developmentAbout You:Proven experience in a senior financial accounting leadership role, ideally within the public sectorDemonstrated ability to lead a team, manage competing deadlines, and drive process improvementExpertise in month-end close, financial reporting, and audit processesExcellent stakeholder engagement and communication skillsProficiency with accounting systems (experience with Magiq and Microsoft D365 highly regarded)Strong Microsoft Excel and financial analysis capabilitiesQualifications Required:Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or related disciplineCPA or CA membership (essential)Why Join as a Randstad Contractor?Hybrid work flexibilityWeekly pay cycleAccess to exclusive discounts across retail, entertainment, and wellbeingOngoing support from a dedicated Randstad consultantWhat Next?If this sounds like your next challenge, please submit your CV via the Apply button.A position description is available by emailing: ashley.brill@randstad.com.auThis is an immediate requirement - applications will be reviewed as they are received, and interviews may be conducted prior to the closing date.
