Salary and Employment ConditionsSalary Packaging: Up to $611.54 per fortnightEmployment Conditions: As per the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 and compliant with the National Employment StandardsAbout FNWLSQFirst Nations Womens Legal Services Queensland (FNWLSQ) is a specialist legal service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, located in Townsville and Palm Island. Half of our staff are First Nations women. We provide legal assistance, advice, community legal education, and a domestic violence duty lawyer service on Palm Island.This role offers a unique opportunity to advocate for and uphold the rights of First Nations women in regional and remote North Queensland. Our work covers civil and administrative law areas, including Child Protection, Domestic Violence, and Family Law, with potential to expand into other areas.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesLegal PracticeProvide legal information and adviceHandle legal cases following FNWLSQ guidelinesManage legal matters such as advice, court proceedings, and client representationConduct outreach activities as neededMaintain compliance with Professional Indemnity and Professional Development requirementsFollow the Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules 2023Manage client records per professional standards and risk management guidelinesSelection CriteriaEncouragement for First Nations women solicitors, including early career applicantsOpen to solicitors at any career stageQualificationsBachelor of LawsEligible for a Queensland Practising CertificateKnowledge, Skills & ExpertiseAdmission as a Solicitor in Queensland and the High Court of AustraliaAbility to provide high-quality legal advice and case managementExperience working with First Nations women is preferredExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsCultural competency with First Nations communitiesProficiency with current computer technologyValid Queensland Drivers LicenceCurrent Blue Card or eligibility to obtain oneAdditional InformationApplicants will be prompted to answer questions about their salary expectations, qualifications, and experience as a solicitor.Multiple Federal Government Lawyer Positions are available. #J-18808-Ljbffr
