About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions:The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP''s significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in various courts, including the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Children''s Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).About your opportunity:This is a temporary, flexible-full-time position from the date of commencement for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension in Townsville.As a Senior Legal Officer, the incumbent will undertake the following responsibilities:Preparing complex matters referred to prosecution, including appeal submissions, in a professional and timely manner.Effectively managing relationships with stakeholders, including defence counsel solicitors, police officers, victims, and witnesses.Appearing as an advocate to prosecute or defend appeals in the District Court, and representing the Director at bail applications, mentions, and call-overs in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.Appearing as an advocate in committal hearings and summary hearings in the Magistrates Court (dependent on location).Liaising with complainants and relatives in prosecutions, especially in matters involving sexual and violent offences.Supervising, motivating, and leading legal officers and legal support staff in delivering legal services.Actively engaging in activities aimed at improving work practices.The successful candidate will demonstrate:The ability to apply legal principles, draft legal documents, and provide legal advice as a litigation solicitor, and work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.The ability to apply well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult, and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.The ability to supervise, train, and mentor legal and support staff to achieve outcomes, and demonstrate an ability to identify and address the needs of victims of crime in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive way.The ability to maintain a high standard of professional competence and ethical standards.Mandatory qualifications, conditions, and requirements:You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).For more information, including the key responsibilities and how to apply, please see the role description linked below.Applications to remain current for 12 months. #J-18808-Ljbffr
