Ensuring solicitors comply with their legal obligations in handling trust money (Trust Obligations) is fundamental to protecting consumers and maintaining the reputation of the legal profession. About The Team The Trust Account Department plays a critical role in ensuring compliance by detecting fraud and investigating breaches. We operate compliance systems to ensure solicitors meet their Trust Obligations, supporting members and the broader profession through education, tools, and resources to facilitate compliance. Our team is multidisciplinary and part of the Legal Regulation Department of the Law Society. About The Role Reporting to the Chief Trust Account Investigator, the Team Leader will have a strategic vision and the ability to shape and enhance the Societys regulatory approach through leadership and team management. You will provide guidance and direction to investigators responsible for trust account investigations. You will foster a collaborative team environment through mentoring and promoting professional development. Your responsibilities include coordinating investigations, utilizing data analytics, developing investigation strategies with innovative technology, and ensuring thorough and timely resolution of investigations. You will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, provide advice on trust account issues, and oversee investigation reports and record-keeping to ensure compliance with data security protocols. What You''ll Be Doing Setting team priorities and managing workflows to ensure timely and quality completion of tasks. Ensuring investigations are performed within deadlines and regulatory requirements, applying sound judgment to uphold the Law Societys reputation. Building and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement in processes, policies, systems, and procedures. Contributing to the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures for effective enforcement of Trust Obligations. Representing the Law Society and providing evidence at NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearings, if necessary. Maintaining high-level knowledge and skills through professional development and mentoring. Modeling professional and ethical behavior in accordance with the Law Societys code of conduct. About You Relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting, or business, with current membership with Chartered Accounts ANZ and/or CPA Australia. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team. Extensive experience in investigations, compliance, or auditing, with strong knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks. Knowledge of financial accounting practices, including accounting systems, auditing standards, and forensic accounting services (e.g., APES 215). Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills. Demonstrated integrity, ethical conduct, and commitment to professional standards. Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills for complex and sensitive situations. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
