Senior Government Lawyer within Exciting Commonwealth DepartmentAdd expected salary to your profile for insights.Allygroup is looking to fill an exciting opportunity for a senior government lawyer with EL2/SES-level Commonwealth experience to join a new venture within a high-profile government department. This is a secondment opportunity for an initial 6-month term, with a possibility of a further six-month extension. Remote work is available for suitable candidates. The proposed start date is 2 June 2025.A baseline security clearance is mandatory for consideration.Applicants should be experienced legal practitioners with a minimum of six years post-admission experience.Hold a current practising certificate issued by the Law Society of the ACT or relevant state/territory.Previous Commonwealth legal experience is required.Demonstrated expertise in regulatory oversight or enforcement.Knowledge or experience related to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority / Water Law is highly desirable.Experience in regulatory enforcement litigation is highly valued.Skilled in developing and delivering structured legal training on legal roles, powers, and delegations.Responsibilities include providing legal advice on a broad range of issues, such as statutory interpretation, administrative law, regulatory actions, inquiries, investigations, and corporate matters.Managing litigation across various matters, including judicial review and regulatory enforcement, in multiple jurisdictions.Advising on legal risks and mitigation strategies, especially in complex or novel areas.Developing legal guidance resources and delivering legal training to stakeholders.Assisting with Freedom of Information requests and providing privacy advice.Engaging with internal clients and external stakeholders, including legal providers, regarding constitutional law issues.What you need to do nowTo apply, click the Apply for this job button above or send your current resume and cover letter to [emailprotected], expressing your interest.
