We work with government, industry and the public on a wide range of technology and policy issues, and design and deliver regulation that promotes the long-term public interest flowing from the use of wireless technologies.Our key priorities includePreparing for the expiry of a range of spectrum licences that are currently used for mobile telecommunications.Maintaining a range of regulations that enable, and support spectrum use across Australia.Preparing for potential upcoming auctions and allocations of spectrum.Providing policy advice on broadcasting issues including the future of television.The Economics Advisory Section is responsible for providing high-quality economic advice on the regulatory and market implications of the ACMAs decisions as the spectrum regulator. The Section provides advice on some of the ACMAs highest priority projects, such as pricing for expiring spectrum licences, as well as contributing to the design of upcoming spectrum auctions and determining the licence fees, charges and taxes that promote the efficient allocation and use of scarce spectrum.About the roleWe are seeking an experienced economist who has:Considerable experience in applied economic research and analysis, with a focus on microeconomics and/or regulatory economics preferred.An understanding of the effects of regulation on the Australian media and communications sectors or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.Demonstrated ability to successfully relate economic concepts and research outcomes to decision making processes, and to produce high quality research reports and advice.Well-developed verbal communication, written communication and interpersonal skills, together with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead small teams.Sound judgement, initiative and flexibility.Experience working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams.Demonstrated public service professionalism, including a commitment to the APS Values, APS Code of Conduct, WHS and workplace diversity principles.Formal economics qualifications are essential for this role. However, it is not necessary to have a background in, or prior knowledge of, spectrum management.To be eligible for employment with ACMA, applicants must be an Australian citizen.Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
