Weve made enormous strides, but theres more to do.To accomplish our vision, we need the best of everything... the best people, the best facilities and the best culture for our people to work in.The Research Assistant in our Translational Tumour Biology group will assist in the development of pre-clinical models of genomic events (primarily involving tyrosine kinase, and tyrosine kinase regulating, genes) using molecular cloning techniques and lentiviral transduction methods. The individual will use these models to perform functional, proliferation and cell viability assays, and drug screening assays, and molecular, Western blotting, qPCR, and RNA sequencing, assays to study the molecular mechanisms of action and how these genomic variants may be effectively targeted. It is expected that the individual will assist in student and research staff laboratory training and support the day-to-day functions of the group.To succeed you will haveBachelor (with Honours) or Masters degree in a relevant scientific field with two or more years experience as a Research AssistantDemonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments independently, and as part of a teamBasic experience in molecular and cellular biology, including cell culture, cell-based assays in vitro (cell counting, drug sensitivity assays), PCR, molecular cloning (restriction digests and ligation, bacterial transformation), plasmid extraction, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA/protein extractionHigh level of attention to detail, ability to closely follow laboratory procedures and excellent laboratory record-keeping skillsAn interest in developing and working with new technologyAbility to deliver timely and accurate results of complex technical workflows at a rigour expected of clinically relevant dataExcellent judgement with the ability to critically evaluate experimental results and to efficiently communicate these in an appropriate wayHigh degree of professionalism and respect for othersWe will support you to be your best with benefits that include but are not limited to:Focus on employee wellbeing, including up to 5 gifted wellbeing days off (paid) per yearAccess to fitness passport, with access to an extensive choice of fitness facilities across Sydney at discounted ratesCorporate discounts and discounts on education through UNSWNot for profit salary packaging / tax benefitsAdditional information about Children''s Cancer Institute can be found on our website at: .We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Childrens Cancer Institute and our culture.
