Working closely with students, staff, and external support services, this role ensures students feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed. Were looking for a compassionate, student-focused professional to deliver end-to-end counselling and wellbeing support, helping international students navigate challenges and thrive during their study journey.ResponsibilitiesProvide initial counselling and support for students experiencing issues such as adjustment difficulties, low attendance or grades, stress, and personal or welfare concerns.Triage cases and manage students at risk, including complex mental health cases, and coordinate referrals to external services such as GPs, psychologists, and psychiatrists.Offer crisis counselling and assessment for serious wellbeing issues, including depression, mental illness, and self-harm.Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders, including academic staff, student success advisors, school wellbeing teams, and external referral agencies.Maintain accurate and timely records of student case notes in the Student Management System (Kaplink).Identify student wellbeing trends and contribute insights to student services teams to inform support practices and targeted interventions.Organise and deliver wellbeing workshops for students and staff based on identified student needs.Promote awareness among staff of common student wellbeing challenges and how to respond appropriately.RequirementsTertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related field, combined with relevant work experience. (essential)Demonstrated experience providing counselling support to young people, ideally of pre-university age and from diverse cultural backgrounds. (essential)Strong knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of complex mental health, cognitive, and emotional issues.Understanding of counselling practice, including triage, case planning, and review, ideally within an education setting.Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with an ability to engage sensitively with international students.Awareness of cultural challenges faced by international students and the ability to provide culturally responsive support.Positive and supportive communication style, with the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain), and willingness to be available outside standard hours in exceptional circumstances (e.g., critical incidents).University of Adelaide CollegeThe University of Adelaide College specialises in providing international students with the first step towards their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Adelaide.
