The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is an independent Commonwealth statutory authority responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, radiocommunications, telecommunications, and some online content.This work underpins our vision for a connected, informed, and entertained Australia.Who we areThe Spectrum Allocations, Licensing and Policy Branch plays a lead role in setting and driving the ACMAs spectrum agenda. We collaborate with government, industry, and the public on a wide range of technology and policy issues, designing and delivering regulation that promotes the long-term public interest in wireless technologies.Our key priorities include:Preparing for the expiry of spectrum licences used for mobile telecommunications.Maintaining regulations that enable and support spectrum use across Australia.Preparing for upcoming spectrum auctions and allocations.Providing policy advice on broadcasting issues, including the future of television.The Economics Advisory Section provides high-quality economic advice on regulatory and market implications of the ACMAs decisions. It advises on priority projects such as spectrum license pricing, auction design, and determining license fees, charges, and taxes to promote efficient spectrum allocation and use.About the roleWe are seeking an experienced economist with:Significant experience in applied economic research and analysis, preferably in microeconomics and/or regulatory economics.An understanding of the effects of regulation on Australia''s media and communications sectors or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn this knowledge.The ability to relate economic concepts and research outcomes to decision-making processes and produce high-quality reports and advice.Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience managing projects and leading small teams.Sound judgment, initiative, and flexibility.Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.A commitment to public service professionalism, including adherence to the APS Values, APS Code of Conduct, WHS, and workplace diversity principles.Formal economics qualifications are essential.
