Our Out-of-Home Care service covers Gunnedah and the New England Region, including Gunnedah, Quirindi, Tamworth, Narrabri, Moree, and neighboring towns.We invite applicants interested in the role of PSP Cultural Support/Connections Worker within our Out of Home Care Team. This is a full-time position. The role may require weekend work and participation in the on-call roster.The PSP Cultural Support/Connections Worker supports children and young people (CYP) in out-of-home care by fostering their cultural connections. This involves working closely with CYP''s families, kin, carers, and community to identify cultural needs and develop cultural plans. The role includes implementing cultural activities, providing emotional and cultural support, and collaborating with professionals to integrate cultural considerations into care plans. Additionally, the worker will assist CYP in improving employability, cross-cultural communication, relationship building, community access, self-awareness, confidence, and overall wellbeing.The position requires a drivers license, ability to travel and stay overnight, flexible hours outside of 8:30am4:30pm, weekend work, and participation in the on-call roster.This is an Aboriginal identified position.Tasks & ResponsibilitiesResearch and gather information about each CYPs family mob, Kin, and Country, including completing genograms.Work with Caseworkers to develop a schedule of plans for existing CYPs.Build trusting relationships with family and kin to gather family history and cultural information, exercising judgment and initiative.Review and implement processes, templates, and record-keeping for Cultural Plans. Educate the PSP team on these processes.Maintain systems to ensure Cultural Plans are current and renewed as needed.Guide Caseworkers and the PSP team in strategies to connect CYPs with family and culture.Assist in preparing CYPs for leaving care, ensuring links to cultural supports are established.Identify suitable services to support CYPs cultural connections and community involvement.Keep accurate records of contacts, conversations, and meetings in paper and electronic systems.Share knowledge and support team members regarding cultural plans.Liaise with Carer Support workers to ensure carers have resources and training for cultural plans, especially for non-aboriginal carers.Coordinate and participate in cultural awareness sessions and training for foster carers.Report any suspected harm or abuse of CYPs to authorities as required by legislation.Assist with legal documentation such as affidavits and court reports.Perform administrative duties to maintain accurate records per legislative standards.Complete monthly reports, including statistics and client reviews.Establish and maintain relationships with relevant agencies and stakeholders.Qualifications or extensive experience in Aboriginal Cultural Studies, Welfare, Child Protection, or related fields are required. The role demands a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, the ability to engage effectively with the local Aboriginal community, and proven experience in finding family and cultural connections.Knowledge of the Out of Home Care sector, including Aboriginal Child Placement Principles, is essential. The candidate must demonstrate person or family-centered approaches, excellent communication, report writing, and computer skills.
