Position Purpose The Yindjibarndi Ranger Coordinator oversees the successful delivery of the Ranger Program in adherence to the Yindjibarndi mission and cultural protocols that guide our on-country work. This leadership role is responsible for integrating Program activities with Yindjibarndi priorities, community expectations, financial commitments, and organisational protocols. Coordinating regular community engagement activities and actively communicating/collaborating with partner organisations, NGOs, and government agencies will be key performance measures. The mandatory development of a safety-first workplace culture and a willingness to build Yindjibarndi capacity in all aspects of the Ranger Program are expected outcomes of the role. Job Description Operations Supervise and direct Ranger Program activities, in line with approved work plans, ensuring that high-level delegation responsibility is taken by all employees for the maintenance and safekeeping of Program assets, equipment, and resources. Ensure provision of all essential plant & equipment, access to cultural knowledge and information, and any necessary inductions or work health and safety briefings. Work with the team to create and maintain on-country biodiversity protections through sustainable, two-way science practices, drawing on Juluwarlu/Elders knowledge. Coordinate approved on-country research by Rangers. Administration Ensure effective day-to-day administrative management of the Ranger Program, including approval of rosters, timesheets, payments, receipt management, purchasing, scheduled vehicle and equipment maintenance, and stocktaking of equipment & supplies. Manage the operational budget for the Ranger Program and supplementary project/stakeholder budgets as necessary. Develop internal and external reporting on the Program, design and implement on-ground monitoring and evaluation with clear, repeatable steps. Develop a safe, sustainable team rostering system that maximises on-country activities and a Ranger presence for looking after country. Training & Development Mentor Ranger performance to develop their personal and professional skills, leadership abilities, and work ethic, including on-the-job training and developing their capacity and confidence to move into more senior roles over time. Proactively contribute to development and establishment of a Yindjibarndi womens Ranger Program. Manage and maintain relationships with community, government, and non-government stakeholders to benefit the Ranger Program and the Yindjibarndi community. Actively support organisational events and programming as required, including supporting on-country cultural induction programming, representing the Ranger Program at meetings and broader industry forums. Logistical support for the ongoing Yindjibarndi Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) consultation and planning initiatives. Confidentiality & Cultural Protocols Work with Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation and Yindjibarndi Elders to ensure appropriate knowledge and advice is available to Rangers and activities are overseen by the appropriate cultural knowledge-holders, upholding agreements and relationships to ensure knowledge is used appropriately, protected, and recorded. Person Specification Dedicated interest in Aboriginal-led natural and cultural resource management Experience managing small teams and/or coordinating natural and cultural resource management projects, ideally within Indigenous organisations Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural contexts in remote Western Australia, with a commitment to community empowerment, training, and development Ability to work safely and independently with minimal supervision in remote areas, staying focused, positive, and organised in challenging environments Willingness to undertake physical labour outdoors in adverse weather, handling plant and animal specimens, chemicals, and equipment within safety guidelines Working knowledge of computer systems, information technology, and communications equipment Developed written and oral communication skills Well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills Qualifications or equivalent experience in Landcare, including fire management, weed control, feral animal management, biodiversity monitoring, or similar 4WD training and experience Knowledge of/experience in emergency management principles, fire hazard assessment Knowledge of/experience with Aboriginal land rights, native title, Indigenous Protected Areas Experience working for and with a First Nations community and/or an Aboriginal ranger program Experience working in a remote Aboriginal community context Mandatory Qualifications National Police Certificate Working with Children Check First Aid Certificate HOW TO APPLY Please submit your CV and a cover letter (max three pages) addressing your experience and suitability, matching the criteria outlined above.
