Join the Museum of Lands, Mapping and Surveying as a volunteer and help preserve Queenslands cartographic history. Established in 1982 by founding curator Bill Kitson, the museum holds a rich collection of historical maps, instruments, photographs, diaries, and artworks. In this role, youll support the Senior Curator in managing and caring for the museums unique physical collection. We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Collections and Conservation Assistant. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the re-housing of historical artifacts and constructing custom-fitted nesting solutions to safeguard their integrity. Participating in meticulous cleaning of objects, adhering to conservation best practices. Implementing preventive conservation measures to protect the collection from deterioration. Assisting in documenting new acquisitions with accurate records. Carrying out other duties as required with flexibility and a proactive approach. We seek candidates with a strong interest in museum collection management and cultural materials conservation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Qualifications in Museology, Cultural Materials Conservation, or related fields are highly regarded but not mandatory.
