Add expected salary to your profile for insightsPosition OverviewThe Aged Care Cook is responsible for delivering high-quality, nutritious meals tailored to the needs, preferences, and cultural backgrounds of residents, in line with aged care quality standards and dietary requirements. The role ensures compliance with food safety, health and hygiene regulations, and supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of residents through appropriate meal services.Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & DeliveryPrepare and serve meals aligned with a rotating four-week menu that reflects the dietary, medical, and cultural needs of residents.Ensure food is visually appealing, easy to consume, and nutritionally balanced.Modify meals for residents with specific health or swallowing needs (e.g., pureed or soft diets).Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment at all times.Ensure that all equipment, utensils, and appliances are properly cleaned, sanitised, and stored after use.Follow and uphold all infection prevention and control policies.Food Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with all relevant food safety legislation, including HACCP principles.Follow Aged Care Quality Standards, particularly:o Standard 3: Personal Care and Clinical Care (nutrition and hydration)o Standard 5: Service Environment (hygiene and safety)Document all food safety records, temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and food deliveries as per facility policy.Teamwork & CommunicationParticipate in team meetings and training sessions as required.Communicate effectively and compassionately with residents.Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.Provide feedback and suggestions to improve meal services and resident satisfaction.Stay updated on best practices in aged care cooking and nutrition.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Performance will be assessed based on the following criteria:Consistent delivery of meals that meet nutritional, cultural, and individual needs.Compliance with food safety standards and regulations.Resident satisfaction with meals and mealtime experience.Contribution to a clean, safe, and positive kitchen environment.Active participation in continuous improvement and audits.Selection CriteriaQualifications & ChecksCertificate in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience in aged care cateringValid National Police ClearanceKnowledge of IDDSISkills & ExperienceDemonstrated experience in preparing meals for elderly residents in an aged care or healthcare settingKnowledge of dietary requirements including texture-modified dietsCommunication & TeamworkGood written and verbal communication skillsEmpathy and respect for older people and their needsCompliance & SafetyUnderstanding of hygiene, food safety, and OH&S regulationsAbility to follow procedures and maintain accurate recordsPersonal AttributesReliable, well-groomed, and professionalPhysically able to perform kitchen dutiesCommitment to high standards and ongoing improvementHow do your skills match this job?Sign in and update your profile to get insights.Your application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?How many years'' experience do you have as a cook?Have you worked in a role which requires a sound understanding of OH&S/WHS?Do you have a current Police Check (National Police Certificate) for employment?Have you worked in a role which requires a sound understanding of the residential aged care accreditation standards?To help fast track investigation, please include here any other relevant details that prompted you to report this job ad as fraudulent / misleading / discriminatory. #J-18808-Ljbffr
