We are an Australian owned sugar milling and refining company operating 3 sugar mills and a refinery in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. The region is a significant part of the local economy, employing over 350 people directly and supporting a further 2500 indirectly. Known for its beaches, rivers, fishing, and natural wonders, the area includes seven shires such as Tweed, Byron Bay, Ballina, and the Clarence Valley. Harwood is located on the Clarence River near the coastal town of Yamba. The role: The Pan Station Operator (Sugar Boiler) is a vital member of the sugar production team at Harwood Sugar Mill. This role involves operating vacuum pan vessels and massecuite handling equipment in a raw sugar production facility. The equipment includes vacuum vessels (pans), pumps, a massecuite handling plant, and other sugar processing machinery. Reporting to the shift supervisor, the operator will prioritize, monitor, and control the vacuum pans to ensure optimal conditions for sugar crystal growth while meeting production targets. The position requires working a 4-on 4-off continuous shift roster during the crushing season (mid-June to late November). Post-crush, work hours revert to Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day (December to June). In support of our safety culture, the operator is expected to actively promote safety, participate in safety initiatives, and seek safety improvements. The role also involves supporting projects aimed at improving operational efficiency and eliminating unproductive practices. An attractive remuneration package, including 5 weeks of annual leave, is offered. Full training will be provided. We are looking for: Previous experience managing process equipment in a food manufacturing environment is highly regarded. Mechanical aptitude. Strong reasoning skills for decision-making based on analysis and judgment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to monitor and control multiple processes simultaneously. Experience in risk assessments and supporting Work Health & Safety principles. Initiative and a willingness to learn. Basic computer skills, including operating computerized control interfaces.
