Join to apply for theBoard Director, Sentencing Advisory Councilrole atDepartment of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria .The Sentencing Advisory Council (the Council) is an independent statutory body established in 2004 under theSentencing Act 1991and sits within the Attorney-General''s portfolio. The Council''s mission is to bridge the gap between the community, the courts, and government by informing, educating, and advising on sentencing issues.The functions of the Council include:Providing statistical information on sentencing to the judiciary and interested persons.Conducting research and disseminating information on sentencing matters.Gauging public opinion on sentencing.Consulting with government departments, interested bodies, and the public on sentencing.Advising the Attorney-General on sentencing matters.Providing the Court of Appeal with written views on guideline judgments.The Board meets monthly, both online and in Melbourne, with members expected to undertake pre-reading for meetings. Directors attend meetings, provide guidance on publications, contribute to strategic planning, participate in governance, and may represent the Council publicly.Applicants should have knowledge or expertise in the criminal justice system, strong networks with key stakeholders, and the ability to contribute to evidence-based policy. Experience in community issues, victim support, legal practice, academia, or criminal justice operations is desired.Applicants from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal communities and culturally diverse groups, are encouraged to apply.
