Forensic Caseworker - Fire & Explosion UnitVictoria PoliceApplications close Tuesday 27 May 2025 at 11.59PMOverviewWork type: Full time Salary: $95,627 - $105,578 Grade: FrO3 Occupation: Science Location: Northern Metropolitan Reference: VG/20008603The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory providing professional forensic services to Victoria Police, justice agencies, and the public.Victoria PoliceForensic Services DepartmentLab Operations Analytical ServicesChemical & Physical Sciences GroupAbout the Unit:The Fire and Explosion Unit attends and examines fire and explosion scenes, conducting investigative and evidential analysis to determine causes and establish linkages between scenes, suspects, and victims.About the role:This role focuses on fire scene examination and laboratory analysis of fire debris and related items, including explosives. It may involve scene and lab investigations related to explosives.Key duties include:Managing investigations of fire and explosion scenes.Laboratory examinations of samples related to fire scenes, flammable liquids, explosives, etc.Preparing expert reports for courts and investigators.Presenting expert evidence in court.Providing advice on fire scenes, explosives, and dangerous goods.Leading and assisting team investigations and supervision of staff.Maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation.Contributing to training, research, and method improvements.Handling, transporting, and storing hazardous chemicals safely.Skills & ExperienceIdeal candidates will have:Ability to interpret forensic examinations and communicate findings effectively, including in court.Commitment to quality casework and research.Strong knowledge of forensic science, especially fire and explosives.Ability to work independently and in teams.Experience conducting scene examinations independently.Analytical and problem-solving skills.Customer service orientation and ethical conduct.Requirements:Located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod, Victoria.Degree in Science or Applied Science with Chemistry major.Willingness to perform on-call work outside normal hours.Ability to work with confronting evidence related to serious offences.Victorian Drivers Licence and ability to obtain necessary permits and licences.Security clearance, including fingerprinting and police checks.Provide a DNA sample for quality control purposes.How to apply:Submit a resume and responses to the selection criteria (max 350 words each).Applications via email are not accepted.Victoria Police values diversity and supports inclusive recruitment.
