Were seeking two motivated Research Assistants to support Professor Jacquie Rand, Chief Scientist at the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation and Emeritus Professor at The University of Queensland. This volunteer role is perfect for Honours, Masters, or PhD students (or retired scientists wanting to make a difference using their skills) - or anyone with research training - looking to build practical skills in scientific writing, data analysis, and academic publishing.Professor Rand is Australias leading expert in urban cat management. She is the Executive Director and Chief Scientist at the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation and an Emeritus Professor at The University of Queensland, where she taught Urban Animal Management. Over the past 17 years, she has led major research projects in partnership with RSPCA, AWL, and local councils, and has co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed papers on managing semi-owned and unowned cats. Her work regularly informs government policy, and she is a sought-after advisor on animal management reform.About UsThe Australian Pet Welfare Foundation is a research, education, and advocacy organisation working to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs in Australia by 2027. We create evidence-based programs that improve outcomes for pets, people, and communities.What Youll DoWork closely with Professor Rand to:Format and reference academic papers using EndnoteAnalyse data in Excel or RProofread and prepare research for publicationOrganise literature and research materialsRespond promptly to tasks via phone or emailWhat Were Looking ForProficiency in Word, Excel, and EndnoteDetail-oriented and responsive to feedbackOwn computer preferred; training providedPowerPoint knowledge advantageous (but not essential)Flexible availability for remote or hybrid work for the right candidate (Office based in Kenmore, Brisbane open Tues/Wed/Fri, 92:30)The ResearchYoull assist with studies measuring the impact of large-scale desexing on free-roaming cat populations using camera traps, as well as research into shelter data and the mental health of animal care workers.
