OverviewThis remote Manager role is a key Forefront team member responsible for leading the payroll team, including an internal team and outsourced payroll service providers, and managing all aspects of the U.S. and Canadian payroll operations. This role is a mix with the Payroll team reporting into this position, but this also includes responsibilities for compensation related accounting. This Accounting Manager is responsible for accurate and timely multi-state payroll processing for associates, compensation related accruals including benefits. As the subject matter expert, this individual will have an in-depth understanding of payroll and timekeeping best practices, payroll accounting, general ledger setup, multi-state and federal, state, and local jurisdictional tax filing expertise, and ensure proper controls are in place for regulatory compliance and audit reporting. This role will report to the Controller and work in close partnership with Human Resources and Accounting teams.Essential FunctionsResponsibilitiesManages team over U.S. and Canadian (substantially U.S.) payroll operations including outsourced payroll service providers (ADP)Responsible for accuracy of all payroll and compensated related accruals including payroll, medical, post -retirement accruals and related account reconciliationsOversees execution of payroll processing procedures to ensure timely and accurate delivery of payroll transactions.Ensures compliance with internal and external audits and IRS and multi-state regulations as they relate to payroll activities, while working directly with payroll service providers or tax agency to resolve issues.Monitors federal, state, and local taxes, garnishments, and all other deductions to ensure accuracy of payroll transactions and tax compliance.Manages and oversees payroll tax filing, payroll journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, payroll funding, payroll earnings, deductions configuration, and payroll reporting.Ensures all areas of Great Plains are maintained and updated to reflect operational changes and the addition of new clinics or providers.Oversees team that administers TimeStar reporting system, including providing support to clinic leaders.Partners with the business to help educate, communicate and solve payroll related issues.Maintains technical competence in areas for payroll processing and tax including the identification, and proposal of solutions on payroll related issues.Provide leadership, development and performance management for direct reports.Responsible for the accounted related to profit sharing and 401(k) plans including:Ensures accurate accrualsManages the team that prepares census data, required payments, and participant noticesCoordinates Plan audits with outside accounting firmEnsures annual 5500 tax reporting is accurate and filed timelyQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor''s degree in Accounting is requiredMinimum of 3 years of responsibility / supervision of payroll team in a multi-state environmentCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is preferredPrior experience with Great Plains and ADP is preferredExperience working at an advanced level in Excel requiredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust be detail oriented.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities with a keen attention to detail.Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.High level of integrity, ethical judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive data.Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
