The hotel will also feature 2 restaurants and bars, multiple conference and event spaces, an indoor pool, sauna, and fitness centre.As we continue to grow, we seek aChief Engineerto oversee our Hotel Building maintenance department.The Role:TheChief Maintenance Engineermanages the hotels physical infrastructure, ensuring optimal operation of all plant, equipment, and building systems. This leadership role supervises the Engineering and Maintenance Department, focusing on guest comfort, operational efficiency, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and asset preservation.Responsibilities:Lead and manage all engineering and maintenance operations across the property, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, lifts, and fire systems.Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans, including preventive and corrective schedules.Supervise the Engineering/Maintenance team, providing training, direction, and performance management.Ensure guest rooms and common areas exceed Health & Safety standards.Ensure compliance with all relevant Australian building codes, environmental regulations, fire safety standards, and WHS legislation.Coordinate and document statutory inspections, certifications, and audits (e.g., fire systems, lifts, electrical).Act as the primary contact for emergency response protocols and risk mitigation related to engineering issues.Manage departmental budgets, forecast maintenance costs, and implement cost-saving initiatives.Oversee procurement of tools, spare parts, and contracted services in line with hotel policies.Maintain accurate asset registers and maintenance logs.Lead capital works, refurbishments, and hotel upgrade projects, ensuring minimal guest disruption.Coordinate external contractors and consultants to deliver timely, high-quality project outcomes.Selection Criteria:Minimum 5 years experience in a senior maintenance, facilities, or engineering role in a hotel or commercial property.Proven leadership and team management experience.Extensive knowledge of building systems and services including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, fire safety, and water systems.Solid understanding of WHS regulations, risk assessments, and compliance reporting.Strong problem-solving, planning, and project management skills.Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Outlook.Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.Trade qualifications in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical services.Exposure to Building Management Systems (BMS) and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).Experience in sustainable building practices and energy efficiency initiatives.Personal Attributes:Highly organised and detail-oriented.Calm under pressure and solutions-focused.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Committed to continuous improvement and team development.Hands-on leadership approach with strategic oversight.Benefits we offer:Discounts across our hotel network.Collaborative working environment in a small team.As an independently owned and operated hotel, we have the freedom to innovate and implement new ideas quickly and easily.If this role sounds like your next career step, please apply with your cover letter and CV.
