Working in a recruitment agency is like running your own business - you decide which companies you want to win work from, you''re responsible for building a pool of candidates that match the roles that you recruit for, and you''re in control of your workload and accountable for your results.If youre hardworking, driven, persistent, and effective at delivering results, youll enjoy a successful career, have a massive impact on your industry and make a lot of money!What''s involved with being a Recruitment Consultant?Depending on your role, you''ll have a number of key responsibilities, including:Sourcing, screening and selecting candidates for your clients'' open job vacancies (and the roles that you specialise in and will get in the future)Generating candidates and then introducing them to businesses (ie making sales calls) to create opportunities and make placementsManaging all aspects of the recruitment process and supporting your clients with hiring and onboarding peopleManaging key accounts, following up on your workers and placed candidates, helping to retain and grow that businessWinning new business by doing sales calls, attending sales meetings and networking online and in-personYour day will be jam-packed full making calls, conducting and arranging interviews and going on client meetings so you''ll need to be high-energy, organised, efficient, self-motivated and enjoy working at pace and under pressure.What are some of the challenges Ill face?Being a Recruitment Consultant is incredibly rewarding, but you need to be prepared for some challenges:Theres a lot to learn and it will take time to see results - expect a steep learning curve and at least a year to get your head around things- no quick wins or easy money here!It''s a sales job, so there''s fee targets and activity KPIs which you''ll be expected to hit in time and be consistent with achieving in the future- there''s a lot of accountability and you need to be prepared to work hard and be consistentAll day long, youre interacting with people mostly on the phone but also in meetings and interviews - so you need lots of energy and enthusiasm, good interpersonal skills and excellent communicationWorking with people can be challenging so youll need to be resilient, have a positive attitude and possess good problem-solving skillsAnd finally, there are lots of different aspects to the role so youll need good time management, the ability to work at pace, and be comfortable spinning lots of plates!What kind of person makes a good recruiter?There''s not just one type of person that makes a good recruiter but ideally I''m looking for people from:Individuals that have done technical roles in industries like mining, engineering or constructionIndividuals from Real Estate, Call Centres or Insurance are also of interestYou don''t need a university degree but you do need to have commercial acumen, sales drive and excellent interpersonal skills.What roles are available?Accountancy & Finance recruitmentWhite-collar miningBlue-collar mining tradesIT recruitmentNursing & healthcare recruitmentYou must have valid work rights to be considered and be currently living in WA.Sponsorship is only a possibility if you have at least 12 months'' recruitment experience from overseas (UK, Europe, South Africa and USA is most commonly accepted by my clients) but please note that typically you will need to have valid work rights at this moment to be considered ie be on a working holiday visa.They are full-time, permanent opportunities, based in and around the Perth CBD/metro area.In these roles you''ll earn a base salary and be entitled to commission/bonuses as you hit your targets and deliver results - which will grow over time as you get better at the job and build your candidate and client network.Im interested, so how do I get into recruitment?If all of this sounds like a challenge that youre up for, and youre interested in beginning/continuing a career in recruitment, then we should talk!My name is Michael Jones and I run the Developing Experts Academy which hires and trains entry-level recruiters for recruitment agencies across Perth.
