We are seeking highly motivated legal professionals to join the Office of Fair Work Ombudsman (OFWO) as a Lawyer or Senior Lawyer to provide legal advice and support relating to the OFWOs criminal jurisdiction. This is a unique opportunity to support a new investigative function for the OFWO and contribute to developing its work practices and culture. Positions are available as a Lawyer (APS6) and/or Senior Lawyer (EL1), depending on the candidate''s skills and experience. Offers will be based on performance and operational needs. About the OFWO The OFWO is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009. Our functions, as outlined by the Act and other legislation, aim to: Ensure compliance with workplace laws Investigate workplace law breaches Enforce workplace rights and obligations From 1 January 2025, the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023 introduced a criminal offence for employers intentionally failing to pay employee entitlements. Eligibility and About the Branches The OFWOs Legal Enforcement Branch 1 is responsible for advising on investigations and litigation related to Commonwealth workplace laws. The branch provides legal advice on criminal investigations and the intersection of criminal and civil jurisdictions, engaging with stakeholders like the CDPP and AFP. The Opportunity As an APS6 Lawyer or EL1 Senior Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to: Advise on criminal investigations and prosecutions Lead and develop junior lawyers (EL1 level) Contribute to strategic legal planning and enforcement Please note: EL1 employees may need to work outside regular hours and travel domestically, including overnight stays. Flexibility will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Selection Criteria We seek exceptional lawyers with a proactive attitude, agility, and a commitment to fairness in workplaces.
