ABOUT CANNINGTON Our Cannington operation is one of the world''s largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, it features an underground mine and processing facility about 800 km west of Townsville, with a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. The site is accessible via direct flights to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from campperfect for sunset walks or runs along a dedicated track. Accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, a swimming pool, music room, and social areas. WHAT SOUTH32 OFFERS 26 weeks full-paid or 52 weeks half-paid parental leave for primary carers Opportunity to become a shareholder through our share plans Options for additional superannuation contributions Ability to purchase up to 4 weeks of additional annual leave ABOUT THE ROLE This is a permanent position on an 8:6 4:3, 4:3 roster, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry, and McKinlay Shires. An alternate roster from Cairns is also considered. As the Short-Term Mine Planning Engineer, you will drive strategic and operational mine planning to ensure smooth execution of the Cannington mine plan, focusing on safe, sustainable practices and well-designed plans to optimize underground production. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Developing timely design plans for the Mining team, including stope shapes and drill and blast strategies. Collaborating with Geology and Geotechnical teams to ensure designs suit geological conditions. Monitoring and adjusting mining sequences and stope shapes to maximize value and ensure adherence to key drivers. Enhancing mine planning processes to improve safety, profitability, and cost control, while managing and communicating risks. ABOUT YOU You should have experience and demonstrate capability in: Deep understanding of underground hard rock drill and blast operations in theory and practice. Planning skills leveraging value and risk-based decision making. Interpreting historical stope performance to improve future designs. Proficiency with relevant software, preferably Deswik.
