The Opportunity: Laing O''Rourke has an opportunity for an Electrical Design Manager to join our team on prison projects, initially based in our Sale, Manchester office. Current projects are in Lancashire and Buckinghamshire, and the role will be based on-site when the projects move to construction. Role Responsibilities: Review and deliver all design information in line with procedures, ensuring completeness and contractual compliance, considering programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. Oversee the production, control, and distribution of design information across project stages and ensure regular progress reporting. Ensure technical excellence, assurance, and performance across projects from pre-engagement to delivery as part of the Design Job Family and Technical Function. Support effective collaboration with consultants, maximise their effectiveness, and optimize design solutions to meet client needs and budgets. Review design delivery to enhance quality and efficiency, supporting procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover processes. Assist in adopting Laing O''Rourke''s design processes, ensuring rigorous project management and collaboration across the supply chain, including BIM/Digital Engineering. Capture and leverage business knowledge for continuous improvement, innovation, and capability development. Technical Capabilities: Creating and owning the design brief Design optimization Design for Manufacture and Assembly Managing consultancies Information and Change Control Design compliance Candidate Requirements: Experience with prisons/justice projects or a strong modular construction background End-to-end management of design from concept to handover Degree in Electrical Discipline or relevant construction/design qualifications and experience Specialist sector experience in managing building services or construction projects We welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to learn, even if all criteria are not met.
