Location Profile Blackburn English Language School (ELS) has been operating for over 30 years and provides full time, intensive English courses for both primary and secondary newly-arrived migrants, refugees and International students. The students usually enrol in our program prior to their enrolment in a mainstream school or further education. The school has three campuses: one in Burwood East (Whitehorse Campus), a second campus in Croydon North (Maroondah Campus) and a third in Wodonga (Wodonga Campus). Selection Criteria Develop and maintain library spaces at the school as active, welcoming, stimulating, and efficient learning spaces for students and staff Ensure that the administration of the library is efficient, and that systems, resources and equipment are well maintained Manage budget to develop a diverse, relevant and culturally inclusive collection that appeals to all students Coordinate relevant staff in the management of quality library, IT and school learning resources and provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of systems and respectful use of resources Effective team work and communication skills in the context of a school for newly arrived English language learners. Relevant qualifications in librarianship/Information Management Role [Attendance requirement for this position] Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs. Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management. The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations. This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management. An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher. Responsibilities Holds relevant qualifications in librarianship/Information Management Provide effective library and information services to meet the information needs of students and staff at all campuses of Blackburn English Language School Develop policies, procedures and criteria for selecting resources which meet curriculum, informational and student learning needs Develop a diverse, relevant and culturally inclusive collection that appeals to all students Provide access to information resources through efficient and well-guided systems for organising, retrieving and circulating resources Provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of these systems Plan and work collaboratively with curriculum leaders to ensure information resources and technologies support student learning and meet the schools strategic goals Develop budget estimates to ensure that teaching and learning requirements are met Provide assistance to students in the use of information resources and guide them to suitable reading materials Promote the effective use of resources and information sources, systems and services within the school community Maintain libraries at the school as an active, stimulating, and efficient learning space for students and staff Ensure that the day-to-day administration of the library efficient, and that systems, resources and equipment are well maintained Coordinate the roles and daily tasks of the Library Technician Support other educational services of the school community as necessary Collaborate with LMERC and other language schools to exchange ideas and discuss issues relevant to EAL schools Who May Apply Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position. Information on the department values is available at: Other Information This is an intensive English Language Program for students who are newly arrived in Victoria and are preparing for learning in mainstream schools. This position is based at both Whitehorse (120 Eley Rd, Burwood East) and Maroondah (431 Maroondah Hwy, Croydon North) Campuses. The Library Manager also overseas the needs for our campus at Wodonga.
