Job Description

Paediatric training in Tasmania offers a wealth of specialty and sub-specialty experiences, working with a supportive and expanding team, and opportunities to explore the beautiful state of Lutruwita through work-life balance. Overview Tasmania is highly sought after as an entry point for Paediatric training with the Royal Australia College of Physicians. The statewide program provides broad exposure to general paediatrics and subspecialties within a closely supervised team. Positions are available for first-year trainees, those seeking paediatric experience for other training programs, and more experienced trainees preparing for college exams. Supervision is provided by consultant paediatricians, and mentorship is available through a large training network. Training Opportunities We offer paediatric basic trainees the opportunity to complete all training requirements within 3 years, including rotations in general paediatrics, emergency medicine, subspecialties, rural rotations, and interstate tertiary hospitals. These positions are accredited by the RACP for basic training in General Paediatrics. Both LGH and NWRH are accredited for rural training during rotations from Hobart. Hospital Facilities The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmanias major referral and teaching hospital, with extensive paediatric wards, ICU, and outpatient services. Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and North-west Regional Hospital (NWRH) offer comprehensive paediatric and neonatal services, with staffing and accreditation details provided. Positions Available General Paediatric Registrar Basic Trainee Registrar Roles and Rotations Positions involve inpatient and outpatient care, with rotations in general paediatrics, neonatal and paediatric ICU, emergency, ambulatory care, surgery, and subspecialties such as Oncology, Respiratory, Diabetes, Neurology. Tasmania maintains relationships with tertiary hospitals in Adelaide and Melbourne for advanced training opportunities. ''Streamed'' positions guarantee all rotations within 3 years. Based on the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 and the Tasmanian State Service Award. Employment Details Fixed-term, full-time, commencing 02 February 2026 until 01 February 2027, with potential for a 24-month contract. Locations include RHH, LGH, and NWRH.
