The department promotes the Territorys reputation for safe, high-quality agricultural produce through scientific research, strong biosecurity practices, and compliance with animal welfare legislation.As the Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer, you will hold a senior leadership position within the livestock biosecurity team, responsible for planning and managing various livestock biosecurity projects to maintain and enhance trade and market access for Northern Territory livestock and products.Your key duties include leading biosecurity teams in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, and Alice Springs; providing strategic advice to government executives and industry stakeholders; representing the Territory on national working groups and committees; leading emergency disease and pest animal responses; and acting as Chief Veterinary Officer and Chief Inspector of Livestock in their absence.To succeed, you need a relevant tertiary qualification in Veterinary Science, eligibility for registration in NT, and experience leading animal health, biosecurity, and livestock programs. Strong knowledge of disease surveillance and control, along with the ability to plan and implement regulatory, research, and extension projects, is essential.
