If you have a background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or digital technologies and are passionate about innovation, this is your opportunity to launch a rewarding career in intellectual property.As a Trainee Patent Attorney, you will gain the technical, legal, and commercial skills needed to become a registered Patent Attorney. Through structured on-the-job learning and formal study (Masters of IP Law), youll work with experienced mentors and high-profile clients to protect groundbreaking innovations.Key Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesTechnical ExpertisePreparing patent applicationsDraft patent specifications, descriptions and claims with guidance from senior attorneys.Prosecuting patent applications to grantClearly articulate to clients the objections raised by the Australian and/or international patent office.Amending patent documents and/or preparing arguments with a view to progressing a patent application through to grant having regard to the clients commercial and strategic needs.Advice and opinionsWith supervision from senior attorneys, provide advice on freedom to operate and infringement or validity, opinions on patentability issues.Marketing and Business DevelopmentTake an interest in the firm and practice groups marketing and business development activities.Participate as appropriate e.g. write articles for Griffith Hacks website, attend industry events.Formal EducationManage completion of Masters of IP Law requirements and work responsibilities.Communicate requests for study leave and progress towards completion with supervisor and PGL.About YouQualificationsBachelors degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, digital technologies, or a related field.Strong academic record.Experience & SkillsOne year of experience in industry or IP practice preferred.Effective communication skills, written and verbal.Excellent attention to detail.Strong analytical skills.Ability to build relationships with a range of people.Location: SydneyHow To ApplyIf this role sound like you, and you have work and study rights in Australia, wed love to talk.
