Curtin University is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded STEM Engagement Coordinator/STEM Outreach & Education Coordinator to lead an exciting new outreach initiative based in Kalgoorlie.Reference Number: 1005265About the Role:This evolving position will be central to designing and delivering a two-year community engagement program aimed at inspiring local school students to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).This is a hands-on role requiring you to work with teachers, key stakeholders and students at local primary and high schools, community organisations, and the Curtin Kalgoorlie Campus to create and deliver engaging activities, workshops and challenges such as coding and robotics competitions, and more.This is your chance to help bring fun, engaging and educational STEM experiences to young people in regional WA and supporting the next generation of problem solvers, creators and innovators!Your responsibilities will include:Coordinate and deliver engaging and practical STEM workshops and outreach events in schools and community settings.Build strong relationships with teachers, principals, community leaders, and Curtin staff to support the success of the program.Establish a regional hub for school-based competitions, mentoring and events.Create accessible and inspiring resources to help young people explore education and career pathways in STEM.Train and mentor university students to help deliver outreach programs.Who we are looking for (Selection Criteria):Essential Criteria:Completion of relevant degree in education or a STEM related discipline with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination or relevant experience and education/training.Proven capacity to coordinate and deliver effective STEM and/or education-based events and develop resources to support these (web and print), especially within a large organisation.Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders such as schools.Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills and ability to present STEM concepts to a variety of audiences.Demonstrated ability to train and supervise other staff.Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to work independently within established guidelines and collaboratively within a larger team.Ability to manage students, including during extra-curricular activities such as camps.Desirable:Knowledgeof the school and university-sectorAn understanding of the importance of the role that science and engineering play in local industry and the university courses and careers relating to these.Role Requirements:As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtins satisfaction.This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.Occasional regional travel may be required.Ability to work outside of normal office hours as required.Your new Team:The STEM Outreach team at Curtin University is dedicated to inspiring and engaging future scientists, engineers, and educators.
