As a Senior Lawyer, you will play a critical role in markets law enforcement, managing complex cases, providing expert legal support, and leading matters to achieve key milestones and successful outcomes. Sydney or Melbourne $147,074 - $162,634 Permanent Applications close at 11:59pm ADST/AEST, Wednesday, 14 May 2025 The team The Markets Group manages the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation, and enforcement. Markets Enforcement is part of the Markets Group and is responsible for taking enforcement action (including disruptive action) on matters such as continuous disclosure, insider trading, market manipulation, licensing obligations, and misconduct by retail OTC issuers. Markets Enforcement investigates suspected market misconduct and takes formal enforcement action in response to suspected breaches of the Corporations Act and Market Integrity Rules. This includes commencing civil proceedings, working with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) to secure criminal convictions, and taking administrative action through the Market Disciplinary Panel. The role As a Senior Lawyer, you will contribute significantly to Markets Enforcement by managing complex cases from investigation through enforcement. Your responsibilities include preparing legal briefs, providing legal advice, working with external counsel, conducting compulsory examinations, interviewing witnesses, participating in search warrants, and contributing to case theory and strategy. You will also present to executives and the Commission, and help build legal capacity within ASIC. About You To succeed, you will have a law degree and admission to practice in Australia, with extensive post-qualification experience in financial services, regulation, law enforcement, criminal, or corporate and commercial law. You should have a proven track record in managing high-impact legal cases, with strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
