The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Paediatrics and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Paediatric Department and Hospital as required.This position is expected to commence in January 2024.The Visiting Medical Officer will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.Royal Prince Alfred is a principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australias leading hospitals, providing an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment facilities. Over 12,000 children present to RPA Emergency Department each year and approximately 1600 are admitted with a range of acute and chronic medical and surgical problems. The Department of Paediatrics provides a broad range of services, including a busy 10-bed inpatient ward, a Hospital in the Home program, daily acute review clinics, paediatric outpatient clinics and medical support to RPAvirtual, Australias first virtual hospital. There is a focus on innovation, quality improvement and the teaching and mentoring of trainees.The Department of Paediatrics works closely with SLHD Emergency Departments, the RPA Department of Newborn Care, The Canterbury Hospital Paediatric Department and the Sydney Childrens Hospitals Network.The role of the Visiting Medical Officer in Paediatrics encompasses a variety of activities including participation in the on-call roster, departmental meetings and the teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and medical students. The on-call roster is shared between three Staff Specialists and five Visiting Medical Officers. There is 24-hour Paediatric Junior Medical Officer staffing.The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) , and Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with recognised qualifications in General Paediatrics and/or other equivalent specialist recognition.Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Public Hospitals Visiting Medical Officer Determination.All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
