Legal Associate to the Deputy Chief Justice Sydney, NSW Purpose of Position Legal associates assist with researching cases, points of law, preparing matters for hearing, and related duties for first instance judges and the Court. They provide assistance during court hearings and perform court support duties. They primarily assist designated judges but may assist others if needed. Some travel may be required. Key Responsibilities and Duties Provide research assistance to judicial officers. Assist with case management and data entry into the Courts case management system. Help prepare matters for court, including judgments, head notes, and editing in line with publication standards. Undertake judicial associate and court officer duties, including updating chambers records. Assist with the general operation of chambers as needed. Selection Criteria Ability to undertake research and prepare reports and correspondence. Strong organizational skills, ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure. Effective interpersonal skills, including tact, discretion, and communication with judiciary, legal professionals, and staff. Proficiency with computer equipment and software. Knowledge of Family Court functions, procedures, and terminology or ability to acquire it. Notes Eligibility Australian citizenship is required. Security and character clearances are required, including Police Records Check. Successful applicants will undergo a probation period. Applicants who received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency may apply after their benefit period ends.
