The Senior Site Contamination Lead will lead key technical and project management components required to deliver this Strategy. These components are: preliminary and detailed site investigations, environmental risk assessment, and remediation options assessments and remediation action plans.The Senior Site Contamination Lead will also support the whole of the Environmental Stewardship Program, Science Branch and AAD on a range of strategic projects focused on minimising and managing impacts of human activities, infrastructure developments and operations in Antarctica. The Senior Site Contamination Lead needs to be flexible, adaptable and thrive in the context of dynamic planning and execution of field programs in a complex project delivery and operational environment in one of the most remote areas of the world.The main duties of the role include:overseeing the comprehensive assessment of waste and contamination at Australian sites in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic and delivery of human health and environmental risk assessments consistent with National Environmental Protection Measures (NEPMs) and best practice. This includes overseeing planning, coordination, execution and technical oversight of complex field-based programsplaying a key role in the development of an actionable Antarctic clean-up strategy that prioritises sites within the AAT for clean-up, management, remediation and restoration based on net environmental benefit, and in the context of Antarcticas specific environmental, regulatory and logistical settingsworking with AAD scientists and collaborative research partners to advance the development of site assessment tools, risk assessment techniques, clean-up and remediation technologies specific to polar environments, building upon extensive existing scientific knowledge derived through the Australian Antarctic Science Program to datedeveloping and managing budgets, media / communications packages, and reporting as part of broader suite of project management duties of the roleproviding advice to a broad range of subject matters in environmental and operational fields to environmental management, operational and policy functions of the AAD.
