The role is shared with an existing Co-Clinical Director who has been in post for almost 2 years. The successful applicant will provide strategic leadership and direction, compassionate and mature leadership of multidisciplinary frontline staff, ensuring strong relationships are built and maintained, and that emergency medicine services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service. The post requires leading a team towards delivering a high-quality service with efficient resource utilization and cost-effective policies, in addition to providing direct clinical care.Ideally, we are seeking a FACEM with more than 3 years post-fellowship or FACRRM/FRACGP with more than 3 years post-fellowship, with extensive experience as an emergency medicine consultant in Australasia, including rural or regional contexts. Demonstrated leadership in emergency medicine and success managing large and complex teams are essential. Willingness to work at least 0.75 FTE (0.5 clinical director, 0.25-0.5 staff specialist) is required.About UsWe are an inclusive team who have found NW Tasmania to be a beautiful place to live and an excellent location to pursue our professional goals. Our small group includes specialists with extensive experience and qualifications in diverse sub-specialty areas such as simulation, toxicology, POCUS, Australian Defence Force, paediatric emergency medicine, humanitarian medicine, disaster medicine, clinical research, palliative care, VAD, medical education, and administration. With the co-director model, you will have opportunities to develop in leadership, management, and strategy that match your passion and skills. We are also a hub for the ACEM EMET program, with opportunities to be involved in outreach educational programs to remote areas like King Island and Queenstown.Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the THS North West has major sites, North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), located about 50 km apart, each managing around 30,000 presentations per year. The NWRH is a regional trauma centre with inpatient general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, ICU, and mental health. Both departments operate a VST telemedicine program for acute stroke. The MCH is a subacute hospital with limited inpatient services and rehabilitation. Both EDs have 24-hour pathology and radiology access (on call 11 pm7 am). Staffing includes Staff Specialists, Registrars, and Residents across shifts.The NWRH is accredited by ACEM for 12 months of emergency medicine training, with ambitions for 24 months, and by RACGP and ACRRM for advanced skills training. Trainees from all three colleges work in our departments.
