We offer a space to do meaningful work, without red tape, alongside people who care about what they do.About The RoleWe are seeking a Transport Strategy Lead to oversee the delivery of key transport planning and strategy projects, while playing a critical role in supporting and developing our team. Reporting to the Director, you will lead major projects across integrated transport planning, active mobility strategies, and EV infrastructure planning. A core part of the role is also providing mentoring and leadership to junior staff, reviewing technical work, supporting skills development, and contributing to a positive, high-performing team culture.You will be a hands-on leader who guides the project lifecycle from concept through to final delivery, balancing technical depth with strategic oversight. Client relationship management, quality assurance, and clear, engaging communication are essential parts of the role. This is an opportunity to shape not just the quality of our project outcomes, but also the future leadership capacity of the Institute.Candidate ProfileWere looking for someone with 57+ years of experience in transport planning or strategic transport policy. You will bring strong project leadership capability, excellent writing and communication skills, and a proven ability to mentor and support others. Youll have a structured, analytical approach to complex problems, and confidence managing both the technical and people elements of projects.Experience leading teams or providing structured mentorship will be highly regarded, as will a background across both consulting and government projects. A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. transport planning, geography, engineering, or urban policy) is essential. Familiarity with Excel, GIS, or data visualisation tools is desirable, and experience with EV strategy, modelling, or active transport planning will be an advantage.Application ProcessThe Institute for Sensible Transport is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
