It is ideally suited to either a first- or second-year general surgical fellow with a broad clinical interest.About the RoleWe are seeking a first or second year surgical fellow with a strong interest in both clinical practice and research. This role offers a broad clinical experience, working closely with surgical consultants, subspecialty consultants, and accredited surgical registrars in the care and management of general surgical patients.In addition to clinical exposure, this position provides dedicated time and support for pursuing a research project in an area of your interest. This is an ideal opportunity to further both your academic and clinical development, and to prepare for sub-specialty post-fellowship training, overseas fellowship, or a future consultant position.Research roleIt is expected that you will undertake a research project related to either General, Breast, Endocrine or HPB/UGI surgery.As a minimum requirement, it is expected that you will either present at a national level or publish in a peer-reviewed journal.An opportunity also exists to undertake a higher degree by research through the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.Clinical roleYou will be primarily attached to either the Breast/Endocrine or HPB/UGI unit depending on your clinical interest.You will aid in the cover of other general surgical fellows (Colorectal, Breast/Endocrine, HPB/UGI) as required.Clinical duties will include covering both elective and emergency operating, outpatient clinics, XRAY meetings, MDT meetings and both weekend and after hours on call as rostered.You will be rostered for four days per week inclusive of dedicated research and training time.
