As the Director of Governance Services, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Universitys governing bodies and ensuring excellence in corporate and academic governance practices.The RoleReporting to the General Counsel, the Director of Governance Services is responsible for the delivery of high-quality secretariat services and governance support to the University Council, its committees, the Academic Senate, Faculty Boards, and the Boards of controlled entities. This critical role also leads the Universitys policy management function, ensuring the integrity and consistency of institutional policies.You will work closely with the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, members of Council and committees, Chair of Academic Senate, Board Chairs, and senior University leaders to support effective decision-making and regulatory compliance. With oversight of a skilled governance team, you will ensure that governance processes, protocols, and policy systems align with the highest standards of institutional accountability and strategic direction.Specifically, the role will:Provide expert guidance and strategic leadership on governance matters.Lead the development and delivery of secretariat and governance services for principal governing bodies and controlled entities.Oversee policy development and the implementation of a University-wide policy management framework.Manage induction, training, and ongoing development for Council and Senate members.Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and reporting obligations.Foster strong relationships across the University and with external stakeholders to support transparent and effective governance.About YouYou are an accomplished governance professional with a deep understanding of corporate and academic governance within complex organisations. You will have:Tertiary qualifications ideally Corporate Governance or Law.Extensive experience as a Corporate Secretary or senior governance leader.Proven ability to lead teams, implement governance frameworks, and manage strategic issues with clarity and professionalism in a large and complex environment.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships, influence and provide sound, ethical counsel at the highest levels.Knowledge and/or experience in the Higher Education sector is desirable.Why Join UsAt Macquarie University we are bold, distinctive, and transformative.
