As a key member of the School Executive and Board Committees, the Director of Business leads the strategic and operational delivery of core business functionsFinance, Facilities, IT Services and commercial services encompassing the requisite compliance and risk management.This is a rare opportunity to be both steward and strategistto lead responsibly, plan ambitiously, and ensure the sustainability and success of one of Tasmanias most respected educational institutions.Key Internal Relationships Principal School Board Board Finance and Risk Committees Senior Leadership Team Facilities Manager Finance Manager and team Technology Services ManagerKey External Relationships External auditors Bank Insurance Security provider/s and consultant Contractors IT software system providers Independent Schools Business Association Independent Schools TasmaniaPrimary ResponsibilitiesLEADERSHIPLead the strategic direction and management of the Schools financial, business and administrative functions including setting, revising and reporting on the schools financial performance and budgets that are insightful, timely and accurate to inform and drive decision making.FINANCEDrive and lead the strategic direction of the Schools finance capability,covering:Financial management and reporting budgeting, forecasting, monthly and ad-hoc reporting, cash management and payments, internal controls, annual audits, statutory returns, taxation, continuous improvement and ad hoc analysis.Government Funding - ensure timely and accurate preparation of all compliance and statutory reports (including census) for Commonwealth and State Governments and all statutory educational bodies.Debtor management oversee invoice preparation, payments, debt collection and third-party service provider and vendor liaison.Payroll and accounts payable including salary and payroll management, creditor payments, taxation payments and working with HR to ensure all staff are correctly remunerated and all appointments are authorised.Investments and banking - liaise with the Colleges Banks and investment managers, manage all facilities and apply for additional facilities as needed.Fee Assistance - liaise with and support the work of the Fee Assistance Committee and oversee the Finance Offices role in fee management and debt collection (including directly liaising with lawyers for the purposes of debt collection)Finance committee - Work closely with the Finance Committee to ensure the College is in a sound financial position. This includes preparing and revising budgets and forecasts, delivery of insightful financial reporting and analysis, the development of financial and investment strategies and goals and other advice to achieve the goals of the School set by Principal and the School Council.ADMINISTRATIONSupervise the process for negotiating and managing all building, consultant, cleaning, catering, suppliers and other contracts, including tenders on behalf of the School.Ensure grant/bid applications for government funding are completed and submitted.Review and manage the Schools insurance coverage, including Work Cover.Prepare all necessary reports for the School Foundation and its donors.COMPLIANCEMonitor and ensure compliance with legislation, Government regulations, Auditors, Governance, grants, funding, and advise the Principal and President of Council and chairs of relevant committees as required.RISKReview and further develop the Schools Business Continuity Plan.SCHOOL BOARDAttend School Board Meetings (as required) and provide reports for School Board, Finance, Risk and Senior Leadership meetings.IT SERVICESIn conjunction with the IT Manager have oversight of:Operational Efficiency and Technology IntegrationDriving Digital Transformation to ensure the school has enhanced efficiency and streamlined decision makingEvaluating and Implementing Technology Solutions for the School to improve servicesSupport the development of Automation, AI and data analytics in all business operations and decision-making processesEnterprise-Wide Adoption of digital tools to enhance productivityCybersecurity and Data ProtectionOverseeing Cybersecurity Measures that protect the SchoolEnsuring all IT strategies and initiatives align with Business Strategy of all dataOther Responsibilities:Supporting Relationships with technology vendorsSupport Change Management that results from new technology implementations and digital transformationsMonitoring and Reporting performance, ensuring that IT systems are functioning effectively, and providing reports on the performance of technology servicesFACILITIES AND GROUNDSIn conjunction with the Facilities Manager, Chair of the Facilities Committee, oversee all:Master planningMajor capital projects including contract preparationTender documentation and overall project management through the Facilities ManagerLiaise with external bodies such as local Council and other regulatory authoritiesWith the Facilities Manager prepare an annual works budget and schedule.Ensure security and related contracts are best-in-class.PERSONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCETertiary level qualifications in Finance and/or Business Management and/or Engineering.Experience in developing and managing budgets and financial reports.A CPA or CA qualification would be advantageous.Ability to dynamically monitor, lead and manage a team/department.Proactive and strong work ethic and organisational skills to ensure tasks are completed on time, effectively and efficiently.Experience in managing multiple finance and other tasks.Excellent oral and written communication skills.KEY SELECTION CRITERIALeadershipOutstanding leadership capabilities and demonstrated success in leading teams.Strong commercial and operation acumen.Proven track record in managing finance and business functionsExemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and motivate staffTechnical ExperienceAn accounting qualification such as a CA or CPA equivalent would be highly desirable.High level of knowledge relating to finance, property and governance within a school, NGO or equivalentProven track record in managing budgets and contracts.Solid experience in contributing to planning at a strategic level working with multiple stakeholders.Exceptional negotiation skills.Personal AttributesHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailOutstanding communication skills with the ability to educate others with clarity and taking them on the journeyPerseveranceStrong attention to detailStrong commercial acumenAbility to build positive and constructive relationships with others and can diffuse high tension situations comfortablyA sense of humourAbility to set and achieve goals personally and as part of a teamAbility to maintain composure when under pressure and during challenging situations; can effectively manage stress and demonstrate resilienceDemonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and enhancing financial policies and proceduresAbility to conduct oneself in a professional manner and uphold the values and values of the SchoolHow to apply for this position:Please submit your CV addressing your suitability for the role via the apply now button.For a confidential discussion, and to receive the Position Description, please contact Andrew Barr at abarr@sladegroup.com.au or phone 0400 762 660The closing date for applications is Monday, 16th June 2025 at 5:00 pm.#J-18808-Ljbffr
