Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.About The RoleWe are seeking a dedicated and culturally knowledgeable Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to join our team as a Engagement worker within the Shoalhaven Foundations Program. This is a meaningful opportunity to lead and influence culturally safe practice and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services across NSW.This is a part-time position until 30 June 2026, with the potential for extension. Salary is based on the SCHADS Award, Level 4.This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).How You Will Make An ImpactProvide cultural support to participants in the Shoalhaven Foundations Program.Strengthen referral pathways to Indigenous Elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.Lead and support management in embedding cultural considerations into service delivery models.Actively contribute to the state-level cultural capability agenda.Collaborate with Site Managers to enhance their cultural competency and improve experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients at AOD service sites.Lead or support culturally grounded initiatives like Yarning and Learning Circles aligned with the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework.Source, develop, and share relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural resources and training.Ensure sites are culturally safe through regular inspections and feedback.Foster connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to strengthen access and referral pathways.Lead or support continuous improvement efforts through data review and reflective practice.Assist in the implementation and refinement of culturally safe practice models.Report to the Team Leader on compliance and performance metrics.What You Will BringRelevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience.Strong community connections and the ability to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in culturally respectful ways.A deep understanding of the issues and systemic challenges impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.Ability to influence and guide non-Indigenous colleagues to build cultural safety into their work.Experience navigating complex situations and delivering culturally appropriate solutions.What We OfferSalary packaging up to $15,900 tax free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.Generous Paid Parental leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers, Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities.Sorry Business and Ceremonial leave (up to 10 days)Becoming part of our Burra Burra Network a pastoral care network whereregular group and topic-specific yarning circles are hosted to bring an awareness of thesupport andopportunitiesavailableAccess to EAP and health & wellness initiatives incl Fitness PassportOngoing training and development opportunities that enhance on the job skills and proficiency.Rewarding and fulfilling purpose driven careers that have positive and sustainable / social impacts.How To ApplyBe part of a team making a real difference.
